This session will provide parents/guardians with an understanding of the stress response and how it relates to mental health. The presenters will provide a digestible overview of the “Fight or Flight” response using Dr. Tina Payne Bryson and Dr. Dan Siegel’s “Upstairs/Downstairs Brain” analogy. After providing a foundational understanding of the stress response, the participants will learn how to recognize the difference between a dysregulated and regulated state as well as learn practical strategies for promoting regulation in ourselves and our children. Participants will gain an understanding of how a chronic state of dysregulation can lead to mental health conditions such as anxiety and/or depression. Participants will be engaged through the use of a video as well as built-in opportunities to discuss and share with each other.
