Recent data from a national survey suggests that youth vaping is on the decline. However, correspondence with most school personnel suggests the opposite. The emergence and rapid adoption of cannabis-based vaping products is further complicating the issues surrounding youth vaping and access. The Virginia Commonwealth University Laboratory for Forensic Toxicology Research has been conducting surveillance and characterization studies on electronic cigarette (e-cig) and other vaping products for over a decade.
This session will describe the wide variety of forms a vaping product can take; what chemicals and substances are being identified in vaping products, general dangers of vaping; quality assurance issues of both the vaping and cannabis industries; and some of the poisoning cases submitted to the lab involving e-cig or cannabis use.
