Are Student Assistance Specialists (SASs) Mental Health Superheroes? You decide!
A Student Assistance Specialist (SAS) is a school-based mental health professional with expertise in substance abuse prevention and intervention. They serve all secondary schools with most high schools having a dedicated full-time SAS. In this presentation, you will learn what makes the position of a SAS so incredibly unique and effective. Attendees will experience firsthand how important (and sometimes lifesaving) information regarding alcohol and other drugs is conveyed to LCPS students in the classroom in a creative and engaging way. Staff will also discuss how SASs foster connection with students and provide support and education tailored to their needs. While this presentation is especially relevant for parents, it is helpful for other mental health professionals working with teens as the SAS can be a valuable partner in treatment planning and coordination of care.
